Rotate pages, add page numbers or apply a text watermark. These small finishing tools help prepare documents for sharing, review and filing.
How to add a watermark to a PDF
A watermark marks a document's status or ownership — DRAFT on a proposal under review, CONFIDENTIAL on internal papers, or your company name on a portfolio sample. It discourages misuse and makes the document's standing obvious at a glance. The watermark is applied locally in your browser; the file is never uploaded.
- Open your PDF. Select the document to mark.
- Type your watermark text. Short words work best — DRAFT, SAMPLE, CONFIDENTIAL, or a name. It is drawn diagonally across each page at low opacity so the content stays readable.
- Apply and download. Save the watermarked PDF. The mark is embedded in the pages.
Tip: watermarks deter casual copying but are not security — for truly sensitive documents, combine a watermark with proper access controls on where the file is stored and shared.
Marking documents as confidential before you share them
The default text is CONFIDENTIAL; DRAFT suits work in progress, and COPY or DO NOT COPY suit documents that should not be reused. Light opacity keeps drafts easy to read, while Strong makes a shared copy hard to repurpose. One limit to know: the tool stamps text only — it cannot place a logo or image — and the watermark is baked into the downloaded file.
Watermark PDF — frequently asked questions
Will the watermark make my document hard to read?
No. It is rendered at low opacity behind the content, so text and images remain clearly readable while the mark stays visible.
Can I watermark only certain pages?
The tool applies the watermark to every page, which is the standard behaviour for status marks like DRAFT or CONFIDENTIAL — a partial mark could be misleading.
Can the watermark be removed later?
The watermark becomes part of the page rendering in the downloaded file, so it cannot be toggled off. Keep an unmarked copy of your original if you may need one.
What text works best as a watermark?
One or two short words: DRAFT, SAMPLE, CONFIDENTIAL, DO NOT COPY, or a company or personal name for ownership marking.
Is my document uploaded to a server?
No. The watermark is applied locally in your browser — the file never leaves your device.
